THERE will be an increase of €10 for next year’s Back to School allowance for clothing and footwear following Budget 2022 announcements yesterday.
And in a boost for single parents, the income threshold will now be the same as those of two parent ones.

This comes as Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys announced a Social Welfare Budget package worth €558 million for 2022.
Those who qualify for the 2021 Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance payment will automatically receive a confirmation letter before June 21.
But families who do not receive a letter of confirmation will need to apply on the My Welfare website from the same date.
Meanwhile, the online application closing date is September 30.
WHAT IS THE BACK TO SCHOOL CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR ALLOWANCE?
The Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance is a means-tested once-off payment aimed at helping families with the extra costs when children start school each autumn.
The scheme is open from June 1 to September 30 each year.
Children between the ages of 18 to 22 must be in second-level education to qualify.
The rate of payment for kids aged four to 11 is €150, while those aged 12 to 22 will get €275.
HOW TO QUALIFY
To qualify for Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance, you must meet the following conditions:
- You must be in receipt of a qualifying social protection payment or participating in an approved employment, education or training support scheme
- You must be in receipt of an increase for a qualified child (IQC) in respect of each child for whom the allowance is being claimed (except in certain circumstances)
- Each child being claimed for must be aged between four and 17, or aged between 18 and 22 and returning to second-level education in autumn
- The assessable income for your household must be within a set income limit
- You and each child in respect of whom the allowance is claimed must be resident in the State
